What is Doryx?

Doryx (doxycycline) is an antibiotic used against a variety of bacterial infections. It is a member of the tetracycline antibiotics group of drugs. Doryx is prescribed to treat everything from fevers caused by lice, ticks and fleas to urinary tract infections, infections of the eye (trachoma), and gonococcal infections. It is even approved for treatment of inhaled anthrax. Doryx is used in combination with other medications to treat severe acne and severe diarrhea caused by a parasitic infection. It may also be taken to prevent malaria for up to 4 months duration.

Doryx Side Effects

Get emergency help immediately if you show any signs of being allergic to Doryx, such as hives, swelling of the face, tongue, lips or throat or difficulty breathing.

Other serious Doryx side effects:

• severe headache, dizziness, blurred vision

• fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms

• severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash

• urinating less than usual or not at all

• pale or yellowed skin, dark colored urine, fever, confusion or weakness

• severe pain in your upper stomach spreading to your back, nausea and vomiting, fast heart rate

• loss of appetite, jaundice

• easy bruising or bleeding
  

• unusual weakness

Less serious Doryx side effects:

• trouble swallowing, swollen tongue

• mild nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or stomach upset

• white patches or sores inside your mouth or on your lips

• vaginal itching or discharge

• sores or swelling in your rectal or genital area
